To ensure that we can best meet the individual needs of every patient that walks into any of our three local offices, we offer a variety of orthodontic treatment options including Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, the clear alternative to braces. To learn more about Invisalign, check out the information below.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that straighten your teeth without the need for the brackets and wires that come with braces. Instead, you get sets of custom-made aligners that fit comfortably over your teeth, made from a translucent plastic which make them appear completely clear. Not only are the aligners practically invisible when you put them on, but they are also removable throughout your treatment. This makes things like brushing and flossing easier since brackets and wires are no longer in the way, while also allowing you to take your aligners out to eat your favorites foods. While Invisalign is designed for adult orthodontic treatment, there is also a special treatment designed specifically for teenagers called Invisalign Teen.

How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

Using advanced 3D imaging technology, Dr. Dorsch will take a detailed scan of your mouth, using the images to map out the ideal path for your teeth to move long in order to create the perfect smile. From there, we create between 12 and 48 sets of custom clear aligners, with the total number depending on the patient. As you wear the aligners, they will apply a small amount of targeted pressure to your teeth causing them to move without causing any severe discomfort. Each set of aligners need to be worn for about two weeks before you switch to the next set, repeating the process until you have a straight, perfect smile. For the most effective and efficient treatment possible, the aligners need to be worn for 22 hours each day, only being removed for your meals or your daily brushing and flossing routine. The overall length of Invisalign treatment depends on the total number of aligners sets that you get, but the average time frame is typically between 6 and 18 months, which is the same as braces.

Which Is Better For Me: Invisalign Or Braces?

The answer to this depends on two things: your eligibility for Invisalign and your personal preferences. While Invisalign is a great alternative to braces, it’s not right for everyone, so Dr. Dorsch will conduct an examination at your first appointment to determine if you are eligible for Invisalign. If we do find that you are a fit for Invisalign, you then get to choose what kind of orthodontic treatment you want; whether you want the discretion and convenience of removable clear aligners, or prefer a less expensive option that is just as effective with metal or clear braces. The key to the best orthodontic treatment experience is choosing the option that meets your personal needs, and if you have difficulty choosing, Dr. Dorsch will always be available to help guide you in the right direction.
